Store-bought applesauce just can’t compete with the homemade, good-stuff. I guarantee that once you make it yourself you’ll never want anything but homemade applesauce.
Before I give you all the details, let’s start off with a little disclaimer. There are so many different varieties of apples that’ll work just fine for applesauce. A lot of it depends on personal preference, so don’t think you can only use the specific varieties I reference in this post.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Apple peeler
- Crock Pot
- A knife/apple corer
- Cutting board
- Wooden spoon
- 4-5 pounds of apples (I recommend Gala apples, but any variety will do)
- 1/4-1/2 cup of sugar (you can add more or less depending on preference)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 TBS Cinnamon (optional)
How to Make Crock Pot Cinnamon Applesauce
- Wash and peel the apples then core them. I find an apple corer to make this tedious step much easier, but a sharp knife will work as well.
- Place apple slices in the Crockpot and add the remaining ingredients.
- Stir to combine.
- Cook on high for 3-4 hours, or until apples are very soft.
- Mash apples with a wooden spoon.
- After the sauce has cooled, store in a sealed container in the refrigerator, or can and store away for later. Enjoy!
Keep in Mind
- This makes about 6 cups of applesauce.
- The amount of sugar needed for this recipe depends on what variety of apple you use. For example, I prefer to use Galas for this recipe because they are naturally sweet and, therefore, do not require as much sugar. On the other hand, a crab apple is quite sour, so more sugar is needed if you want to tone down the tang.
I like to store my applesauce in pint size jars. This will keep for a few weeks in the fridge. You can even make a large batch and can it for later!
