Bible Verses About Love

Love is a major foundation in the Christian faith. Without the love of Christ everything else would be meaningless! Praise Him for the unfailing love he continually shows us. Valentine’s Day causes many of us to spend some extra time in thought about love. We may give gifts to those we care about most, send cards to lonely relatives, bake cookies for neighbors, and so on. It is a wonderful time to contemplate love, Where true love is sourced, and how we show it to the world around us.

The Bible addresses the topic of love so many times! Many more than I can list here, but these are just a few of my favorite verses about love. I wanted to share them with you and I hope they’ll remind you of what love really is during this Valentine’s Day.

May you take the verses you read here, pray them over yourself, discuss them with loved ones, and begin to take steps towards growth. I’ve also listed a few more encouragement posts, rooted in Scripture, at the very end of this entry.

Love is a major foundation in the Christian faith. Without the love of Christ everything else would be meaningless! Praise Him for the unfailing love he continually shows us. As Valentine’s Day approaches, many of us spend a little extra time thinking about the topic of love. The Bible addresses it numerous times, and here I’ve listed out a few examples. Please take some time to read each one for yourself so that you may gain the full context of their meaning!

10 Bible Verses About Love

1.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

1 John 4:8

2.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

3.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”

1 John 3:16-17

4.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

John 15:13

5.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

6.

“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”

1 John 4:12

7.

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

Scripture discusses love so many more times than I’ve listed here, so I encourage you to read the Bible and find more hope for yourself. Please also read each of these verses in your own Bible so that you may gain context for why they exist and have power in your life. There is power in the Word of God over all things, including this topic of love.
