Needed Supplies:

  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutters
  • Bamboo skewer
  • Cookie sheet
  • Acrylic paint
  • String or ribbon

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 cup warm water.
  2. Stir or knead the dough until it’s smooth and not sticky. We often add a few pinches of flour as we stirred to get it to the right consistency.
  3.  Let the dough sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Proceed by turning the dough out onto a floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about ÂĽ-inch thickness.
  5. Cut into shapes using your desired cookie cutters.
  6. If stringing the shapes as ornaments, poke a hole in them for the ribbon or string to go through.
  7. Place the cut shapes about ½-inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. For ¼-inch cutouts plan to bake the ornaments at 250°F for 90 minutes.
  9. Flip them and then bake for another 90 minutes. If your shapes are thicker, you may need to bake them for even longer.
  10. Remove the pan from the oven and let the cutouts cool completely before moving on to the next step.
  11. After they’ve completely cooled, decorate them with your desired acrylic paints, glitter, or other embellishments.
